On Tuesday, October 4, 2022, the City of Cocoa donated 5,520 bottles of water to provide disaster relief services to Lee County DOT following the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Ian.
The bottled water was purchased to prepare for the 2021 hurricane season and is nearing it's useful life towards the end of this year. After the destruction caused around parts of Florida by Hurricane Ian, staff knew the water could be used elsewhere to help those in need. Brian Dale, Purchasing Manager for the City of Cocoa reached out to Lee County DOT to extend a helping hand on behalf of the City of Cocoa.
"The City of Cocoa is blessed to be able to assist our neighbors in need once again by providing safe, clean drinking water. I know they would do the same for us if needed," said Mayor Blake. Cocoa also donated water to Flint, Michigan in 2014 and Texas in 2021 during their respective crisis situations.
