At the February 22, 2022 Cocoa City Council meeting, Council unanimously approved a resolution approving the realignment of the US Bicycle Route System along US1 on to Indian River Drive and through Cocoa Village to allow for a more scenic route for bicyclists. This will also allocate funds to properly stripe and add signage along this revised route and continue the City of Cocoa's support for multimodal transportation in our community.

The US Bicycle Route System (USBR) is a developing system of designated long-distance bicycle routes. Routes are designated through the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Special Committee on US Route Numbers. Through a presentation from the Adventure Cycling Association in cooperation with the Florida Department of Transportation, the realignment was requested through Melbourne as well. The approved resolution will realign US Bicycle Route 1 through the City of Cocoa.
