The Emma Jewel/Diamond Square CRA Master Stormwater Recreation Area has been unanimously approved by Cocoa City Council to be renamed the Thomas Cole Stormwater Recreation Area at the February 22, 2022 Cocoa City Council Meeting.
Per a request from District 1 Councilman Alex Goins at the January 25, 2022 Council meeting, Cocoa City Council unanimously approved the resolution to rename the area after the founder and leader of the Emma Jewel Charter Academy. This recreation area was previously leased by Emma Jewel Charter Academy as part of the Academy's grounds. In 2017, through a collaboration with Mr. Cole and Emma Jewel Charter Academy, the City of Cocoa moved forward to purchase the property to construct a master stormwater facility to better serve the redeveloping residential and commercial properties in that area of the Diamond Square community.
Mr. Cole, who is the founder and leader of Emma Jewel Charter Academy, has instilled a passion for learning not only in his scholars that attend the school, but also in the surrounding community. His impact has led to creating responsible and productive members of our community that have and will continue to have a positive impact for years to come.
