District 2 Councilman, Lavander Hearn

District 2 Cocoa City Councilmember, Lavander Hearn has been appointed as a member of the Florida League of Cities Young Elected Municipal Officials Advisory Council. The Council is comprised of about 20 emerging leaders, all under the age of 40, that will provide insight and information to the Florida League of Cities on tailoring programming best suited to the needs of younger elected officials and how to better reach, engage and serve those members.

“I am honored to receive this appointment which shows the dedication not only myself, but other members of the Cocoa City Council have for the Cocoa community. We are committed to improving public service in our community and having the opportunity to network with other emerging leaders will provide me opportunities to continually learn and improve our city,” said District 2 Councilmember Lavander Hearn.

Hearn, who was raised in Cocoa and is an alumni of Cocoa High School, was elected in November 2020 to serve the residents in District 2. He is also a Brevard County Firefighter/EMT and substitute teacher for Brevard Public Schools.

The Council, which is chaired by City of Titusville Councilmember Sarah Stoeckel, provides young municipal leaders from throughout Florida with the opportunity to network, share best practices and participate in targeted trainings.
