A Cocoa Utilities Department crew recently installed a 10-inch insert-valve that will allow the utility to isolate sewer force main lines near SR 528 and Industry Road. This is in anticipation of future repairs and/or adjustments.
This was a large undertaking for Cocoa Utilities' Water Field Operations (WFO) crew. They completed the complicated task in only four days.
The timely completion of this project will greatly help with the lowering of two force mains that currently conflict with the Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) plans to install a new storm drain pipe across SR 528. The new pipe will cross both westbound and eastbound lanes near US 1 (SR 5). FDOT plans to install about 216 feet of 36-inch steel pipe.
To avoid the conflict, Cocoa Utilities Department must lower a 6-inch diameter cast iron force main and a 10-inch diameter ductile iron force main so that they are at least two feet below the drainage structure’s end wall. Approximately 105 feet of both the 6-inch and 10-inch Force Mains will be replaced with ductile iron pipe.
