The City of Cocoa will be joining cities throughout the state in celebrating Florida City Government Week from October 22-28, 2018 by hosting an informative Open House event on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 from 4-6pm prior to the regularly scheduled City Council Meeting and a Touch-A-Truck event during the Fall Festival in Cocoa Village from 3-7pm on Saturday, October 27, 2018. The Open House event will feature table-top displays and staff from each of the City Departments to showcase the services provided to our residents. There will be special giveaways at the event and a chance for each of our residents to creatively display what they love about their city. The Touch-A Truck event will feature various city trucks and staff to allow kids an opportunity to see how these vehicles service the residents of our community.
Because city government is the government closest to most citizens, and the one with the most direct daily impact upon its residents, it is important that residents understand how their city operates, the services it provides, and the importance of their active involvement. The theme My City: I’m Part of It, I’m Proud of It will guide this year’s activities.
“We are excited about Florida City Government Week and hope to engage our residents by showcasing our department responsibilities and how they can get more involved in city activities,” said Mayor Henry Parrish. “This is an opportunity to help our residents become more informed about the many services we provide, which will lead to more knowledgeable citizen participation in the future.”
Florida City Government Week, sponsored by the Florida League of Cities, is a weeklong celebration that raises awareness about the importance of municipal government and it’s daily impact on residents. The League is the official organization of the municipal governments in Florida.
