The Dr. Joe Lee Smith Community Center, located in the heart of the Diamond Square Community along Stone Street, has been in dire need of replacement, as the existing building is outdated, functionally obsolescent, and lacks the space required for the types of services that have been identified as needed in the community. Cocoa City Council prioritized the need for a new center at the existing site, which will be a gathering hub for community activities such as events, sports, senior and after school programs, workshops, healthcare services and more.
The new facility will be approximately 16,000 square feet, substantially larger than the existing center and will be located on the corner of Stone Street and Washington Avenue, a main focal point to the entrance of the Diamond Square Community. Site work for the new facility began in the Spring of 2019 and the new facility is scheduled to be completed by May 2020.
