A few weeks ago, the City of Cocoa lost a long-time citizen, supporter and volunteer, Mr. Friley B. Knight. Friley has been involved with the City of Cocoa since his retirement in 1989 in several volunteer positions including various boards, volunteer police officer, member of redevelopment agencies, citizen advisory committee, member of Keep Brevard Beautiful, charter member of Cocoa Main Street, member of Brevard’s commission on Aging, member of Central Brevard Museum of History and Science in Cocoa and dedicated city hall volunteer.
Friley is the 2002 recipient of the City of Cocoa’s Volunteer of the Year recognition and was recognized with a bronze plaque installed in Cocoa’s Riverfront Park dedicated in his honor in 2011.
Friley always stayed on top of the current issues and needs of this community and was a fixture at City Council meetings, pushing and fighting for what was best for this city.
The City of Cocoa will truly miss Friley and his dedication and service to this great community.
