Update on locations for sandbags and sand piles to prepare for Hurricane Dorian.
The City of Cocoa will have three piles of sand placed in the City where residents can fill their own sandbags. The locations of those sand piles are: Railroad Ave. near Rosa L Jones Dr., School Street near 600 School Street, and Cocoa North off London Blvd. near the lift station. These are piles of sand only. Residents will need to bring their own sand bags and fill them. Brevard County will be giving away free sand bags at four locations throughout the County: Eastern Florida State College, Palm Bay campus, 250 Community College Parkway SE; Calvary Chapel, Melbourne, Viera campus, 2852 Fellowship Place; Mitchell Ellington Park, 575 West Hall Road, Merritt Island; Chain of Lakes Park, 2300 Truman Scarborough Way, Titusville. These locations are open to all County and City residents and are open Thursday (8/29) from 10a-6p, Friday (8/30) from 8a-6p and Saturday will be determined later. The limit is 10 sandbags per vehicle. Lines may be very long for these bags, so please be prepared. Remember, not all homes need sandbags. Please check to see if your home is in a flood zone by visiting the County's Emergency Management website (www.embrevard.com).
