Criminal Investigations Division

The Criminal Investigations Division is responsible for conducting follow-up investigative work for reported crimes and ongoing criminal activity within the City of Cocoa. Each investigator receives advanced training in general investigative techniques as well as specialized areas such as property crimes, crimes against persons, drug crimes, intelligence gathering, economic crimes, fraud and cold case investigations.

The majority of cases to be investigated are assigned to individual detectives; however, all cases are reviewed utilizing a team oriented concept. This method of review provides for the most efficient communication and highest overall opportunity for success in solving these cases.

The Special Investigations Unit devotes its investigative efforts towards a variety of illegal activities based upon current crime trends, community needs and concerns and the Organization’s mission at hand. Some of this unit’s responsibilities include investigating concerns into illegal narcotics trafficking and abuse, gang related incidents, vice related crimes and alcohol related offenses. The unit’s flexibility allows it to proactively work towards identifying and combating other criminal activities and street conditions as necessary.

Within the Criminal Investigations Division are also ancillary services which provide vital assistance to the members of the community and law enforcement personnel. These services include Crime Scene Investigations, Property and Evidence, Crime Analysis and Victim Services.
