(Cocoa, FL)—The Cocoa Police Department will join more than one dozen other law enforcement agencies around Central Florida to host the annual “Kicks 4 Guns” campaign on Thursday, August 17, 2017 beginning at 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. (or until gift cards run out). The event will be at the Pine Ridge Plaza, 1208 Dixon Blvd. (Save-A-Lot). “Kicks 4 Guns” is a completely anonymous program that allows area residents to trade in unwanted firearms for gift cards, no questions asked.

In Cocoa, participants will receive $50 gift cards in exchange for any firearm. Any and all types of firearms accepted. This includes pistols, shotguns, semi-automatics, rifles, etc. Ammunition and BB-guns will be accepted however there will be no gift card exchange for these items. Participants are asked to place UNLOADED guns in a sealed bag or box marked “Kicks 4 Guns”. If you are stopped by a police officer, tell him or her immediately that you have a weapon in the car and are headed to the event. No one may enter the event carrying a gun. Guns are handed over to the police at the venue entrance and are checks, tagged and stacked.

The “Kicks for Guns” program is in its 17th year. Originally, guns were traded in for new shoes at a single location. Due to changing economic conditions the program shifted to gift cards.

Anyone wishing to turn in unwanted firearms should make sure the weapons are safely unloaded and properly secured in the vehicle when arriving at the venue entrance. Officers will be at the venue entrance to provide directions for the exchange process. CLICK HERE for a complete list of all participating agencies.
