Building Permit Fees
The City of Cocoa recently adopted a new building permit fee schedule (Resolution 2008-94, September 9, 2008). The effective date for the imposition of the new fee schedule was Monday, November 10, 2008. The new fee schedule is online or visit City Hall, Community Development Department, at 65 Stone Street to obtain a copy.
Licenses required
The City of Cocoa vigorously enforces the construction contractor licensing statutes of the State of Florida, and prosecutes violations to the fullest extent of the law.
Violations and Penalties
- Unlicensed Contracting First Violation: $500.00
- Violation After Previous Conviction: $1000.00
The State may apply added penalties, including jail time.
An Owner-Builder is only exempt from the licensing requirement of Ch. 489 F.S., under very specific conditions and Owner-Builders may not subcontract the work to unlicensed persons.
