Community businessman and real estate investor, Ralph Perrone, who has served over 600 hours this year alone for the Cocoa Police Department as an Auxiliary Officer, was unanimously chosen by the Cocoa City Council as the 2017 City of Cocoa Volunteer of the year.
The week of April 24-28th is recognized nationally as a week to thank and recognize volunteers who give their time, talent and support for our communities. The five members of the Cocoa City Council each year select one of the over 125 volunteers for the city as the Volunteer of the Year and recognizes them at a Council Meeting.
Ralph was sworn in early 2015 as an Auxiliary Officer with the Cocoa Police Department. In his duties as Auxiliary Officer, Perrone assists with community events and patrols. Perrone is also a board member for Cocoa Community First, the non-profit organization that raises funds for the Cocoa Police Departments many youth and community outreach efforts. Perrone was instrumental in the recent Breakfast with the Chief event, which raised over $20,000 to help the Cocoa Police Department reach at risk youth with scholarships, athletic programs, youth leadership and employment training, summer camp, Christmas and so much more.
“Volunteers are what make this community great. The many volunteers for the City of Cocoa are dedicated members of this community and we could not deliver the level of services we do for our citizens without them. Ralph is a shining example of this. He works tirelessly to make sure our community is safe and that our youth understand the importance of a safe and vibrant city,” said Henry Parrish, Mayor for the City of Cocoa.
The City of Cocoa utilizes volunteers for our many boards and committees, the Cocoa Police Department Auxiliary Officer program and Cocoa Police Volunteer COP program, and with the many community events through the city’s Leisure Services division.
