2014 Officer of the Year

Officer Walter Baker began his career as a Patrol Officer with the Cocoa Police Department in July 1986. During his almost 30 years of dedicated service to the citizens of the City of Cocoa, Officer Baker has served in a variety of specialty units throughout the organization. Over the past several years, Officer Baker has been a dedicated member of the Cocoa Police Department’s Crisis Negotiations Team and a valued informal leader within the unit.

During 2014 Officer Baker received two (2) Departmental Commendation Medals for separate incidents which resulted in the saving of lives.

Throughout his career, Officer Walter Baker has been, and continues to be, a vital asset to the Cocoa Police Department and the citizens of Cocoa. If you know Walt the way that we know him, then you understand that these two separate incidents do not define the man that he is. Each and every day, Officer Baker comes to work with a willingness to help those citizens for whom he has taken a solemn oath to serve and protect. He does so with a selfless attitude and a strong desire to make his community a safer place. Through his actions, Officer Baker exemplifies his dedication to service, bravery, initiative, and continues to bring credit to the department and its members.
