Breakfast with the Chief Raises Money for Cocoa Community First

I was honored to once again host the annual Breakfast with the Chief event On April 7th. What a great turnout! I want to first of all say thank you to our very own Auxiliary Officer Ralph Perrone who worked tirelessly to coordinate the event. Through his efforts we were able to raise more than $20,000 for our non-profit, Cocoa Community First. This organization is what makes our youth and community outreach possible.

In my 26-plus years in law enforcement I have learned that it starts with positive relationship building in the community. I’m so proud of the men and women of the Cocoa Police Department for all they do to make a positive impact in the lives of our young people and our less fortunate residents. Each year the officers and staff work with hundreds of children through the Cocoa Police Athletic League (PAL) and through the local school system. Cocoa Community First sponsors numerous programs through Cocoa PAL including basketball leagues, baseball, summer camp and more. Your donations help fund uniforms, equipment, travel, good and other expenses associated with these programs. Cocoa Community First also provides college scholarships to deserving youth and sponsors the department’s annual Shop with a Cop event in partnership with Walmart. We also use the donated funds to collect toys for children during the annual Christmas Holiday Toy Drive.

Together, all of these programs help make a positive impact in the lives of the children in our community. But it doesn’t end there. We are a community dedicated to a community oriented policing philosophy promoting safe neighborhoods through crime prevention, public information and education and community watch programs. I want to encourage you to support the businesses listed on our “Thank You” poster. The more you help them, the more you help your community!

Thank you again for all your support and for caring enough to make Cocoa one of the best places to call home!
