Chief Mike Cantaloupe administered the Police Officer’s Oath to the department’s newest member. Julio-Cesar Gomez, 25, was sworn in during a special ceremony at City Hall. Gomez’s family and friends were present along with department staff and city leaders.
Gomez is the first officer in 2017 to be sworn in. He is from of Cuban and Colombian descent, born in New York and grew up in West Palm. He later moved to Orlando where in 2014 he graduated from the Criminal Justice Institute at Valencia College. He also holds a bachelor’s in criminal justice from the University of Central Florida. “I wanted to come to a smaller department so I could get close to a brotherhood,” Gomez said. “I didn’t’ want to be just a badge, I wanted to form a new family. They have welcomed me with open arms.”
Gomez will spend about three months with a field training officer learning the department’s policies and procedures. After completion he will be deployed to routine patrol duties.
