Statement Regarding Orlando Terrorist Attack

Sunday June 12, 2016 12:09 P.M.
Today we are witnessing the worst mass shooting in our nations history right near our front doorstep. Our neighboring city of Orlando is reeling from an act of domestic terrorism that occurred overnight. So far, 50 people are confirmed dead and another 50 plus are injured, many critically as the result of a lone gunman who opened fire inside a gay nightclub on Orange Avenue. The governor is being asked to declare a state of emergency for all of Florida.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and the families during this difficult time. I have been in touch with OPD and have offered whatever assistance we can provide.

Please be vigilant in your duties and mindful that it could happen anywhere. Terrorism hit less than 50 miles from our jurisdiction. Stay alert and stay safe.
