Monday, April 18, 2016 7 PM
Detectives and crime scene technicians are at the scene of a shooting that appears to be a murder-suicide. Just after 5 PM Monday patrol officers responded to a report of a shooting at the 700 block of South Georgia Avenue. When officers arrived they found an adult male with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced deceased on scene. Officers received information that the deceased male's estranged wife went to the home and shot him after an argument. There were multiple witnesses inside the home during the shooting including two young children. The woman reportedly fled the scene and alerts were issued with her description and the vehicle she was driving. Officers located the vehicle and initiated a pursuit. The woman drove into Lee Wenner Park with officers still in pursuit. The first officer behind her reported hearing a gun shot just prior to the car going into the water under the 520 Causeway. Officers and deputies immediately attempted to rescue the woman, retrieving her from the vehicle. She was pronounced deceased on scene.

Detectives are currently interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence from both scenes. The children that witnessed the shooting are being cared for. The identities of the suspect and victim will be released when next of kin have been notified. The investigation is ongoing.
