ANNUAL SHOP WITH A COP

TWENTY CHILDREN BECOME CHRISTMAS VIP'S

SHOPWITHACOP2013.jpgPolice officers and department personnel will be running lights and sirens to the local Wal-Mart on Thursday morning, December 10th beginning at 10 a.m. to escort 20 VIP’s for a one of a kind Christmas shopping spree. It is part of the department’s annual “Shop with a Cop” event held each year in partnership with the Cocoa Wal-Mart. The escort motorcade will congregate in the main parking area of the Eastern Florida State College on Clearlake Road starting at 10 a.m. and will depart shortly after to begin the shopping spree. About a dozen officers and department personnel will be paired up with children to spend $125 each on whatever gifts the children request. Wal-Mart provided $2,500 in gift cards and the children were selected through the local schools. “This is one of our favorite events,” said Chief Mike Cantaloupe. “Just seeing the smiles on the faces of these children who probably wouldn’t receive anything for Christmas make it all worthwhile. It really is heartwarming to experience.”
